You had me at Orphan Black.
Orphan Black meets Lord of the Flies in this riveting new thriller from the co-author of the Virals series.
It’s been happening since Min was eight. Every two years, on her birthday, a strange man finds her and murders her in cold blood. But hours later, she wakes up in a clearing just outside her tiny Idaho hometown—alone, unhurt, and with all evidence of the horrifying crime erased.
Across the valley, Noah just wants to be like everyone else. But he’s not. Nightmares of murder and death plague him, though he does his best to hide the signs. But when the world around him begins to spiral toward panic and destruction, Noah discovers that people have been lying to him his whole life. Everything changes in an eye blink.
For the planet has a bigger problem. The Anvil, an enormous asteroid threatening all life on Earth, leaves little room for two troubled teens. Yet on her sixteenth birthday, as she cowers in her bedroom, hoping not to die for the fifth time, Min has had enough. She vows to discover what is happening in Fire Lake and uncovers a lifetime of lies: a vast conspiracy involving the sixty-four students of her sophomore class, one that may be even more sinister than the murders.
Review: This book was like a wild ride that never stopped. I couldn’t put Nemesis down until I figured out what happened…which I never did.
An astroid is about to hit Earth. Everyone is panicking except Min. She has her own problems, like the guy in the black suite who keeps killing her every 2 years on her birthday.
Of course the questions start rising. Why does he kill her? What’s going on? And what’s worst is no one seems to believe her that this is happening. When she’s thrust into something bigger than the impending astroid the wild ride begins. Brendan does a wonderful job at keeping the pace fast and the mystery intriguing. Not only is Min a great heroine but the supporting character like Tack add depth to the story.
As the story unfolds you want Min to succeed. The world Brendan creates of impending doom is realistic and the ending leaves you breathless.
Should you read it? Yes! A great thriller with a mind bending mystery that leaves the readers wanting more.
About the Author:
After three long years working as a litigation attorney, I abandoned the trade to co-write the Virals series (Virals, Seizure, Code, Exposure, Terminal, and Trace Evidence). We’ve completed the fifth and final book in the Virals series, Terminal. I really hope you like it. A Virals short story collection, Trace Evidence, released on February 2, 2016, with a brand new story, SPIKE, set after the events of Terminal. Answers await!
I’m also on the Executive Board of both the YALLFEST and YALLWEST young adult literary festivals. These are a good time. Please join us in either sunny Charleston in November or even sunnier Santa Monica in April.
I plan to keep on writing novels until they drag me kicking and screaming from my desk.
