Release Day Review: This is Where It Ends

Today’s book release was heartbreaking and captivating.

Let’s take a look at This Is Where It Ends by Marieke Nijkamp.

10:00 a.m.this is where
The principal of Opportunity, Alabama’s high school finishes her speech, welcoming the entire student body to a new semester and encouraging them to excel and achieve.

10:02 a.m.
The students get up to leave the auditorium for their next class.

The auditorium doors won’t open.

Someone starts shooting.

Told over the span of 54 harrowing minutes from four different perspectives, terror reigns as one student’s calculated revenge turns into the ultimate game of survival.

Tawney’s Review: What an emotional roller coaster! This book sucked me in on the first page. The concept intrigued me since I remember the horrific outcome of Columbine. This is a subject that sadly is too common but Marieke brings it to life in a moving story that took me through so many emotions.

There are four POV, which makes the story move and keeps the reader engaged. It was sort of like a mystery at first trying to understand each character and what part they play in the story. I kept reading to find out more.

All the characters had wounds and were connected to the shooter. You could feel their pain and terror. Marieke does a wonderful job at describing the terror and setting with vivid description. You learn bits and pieces about the shooter throughout the book from each of the characters. When students and teachers where killed off one by one you feel that loss with the characters.

Marieke takes a heartbreaking subject and weaves together a wonderful story about friendship, love, and loss. The words flow as you read more and more to understand why this is happening. Marieke does a wonderful job at taking a harsh realistic subject and making it into a respectable story. It may be to emotional for some readers but I highly recommend this book.

Should you read it? YES! I absolutely couldn’t put this book down. The writing is fabulous and the journey through a heart wrenching story so emotional. A page turner you won’t want to put down.
