Author Chat Interview Leigh Ann Kopans Author of TWO

I have been waiting for the sequel to One ever since I put the first book down and now that it’s out I LOVED IT. We had the pleasure of having author Leigh Ann Kopans for Author Chat. If you don’t know what Author Chat is check it out here.  We had a lovely chat and enjoyed ourselves immensely.  I’ve put together the spark notes version of the chat. I didn’t want to miss out on all the conversations so toward the end I quite jotting down notes and just talked with everyone.

Today’s Author Chat was joined by Katie Teller, Darci Cole, Krista Pearman and Christi Gray. After a few technical difficulties we finally had Leigh Ann on the computer ready to chat.

Us:  Did the story for both books come to you or just ONE and TWO followed?

Leigh Ann:  I knew that I wanted to self-publish and that it was better to have more than one book. When I was submitting I left it open for ONE to possibly have a sequel. Some agents wanted sequels others didn’t.

Us:  How did you get into the male point of view? You go from Mer’s female point of view to Elias, was it hard?

Leigh Ann:  I really didn’t know what the typical guy was.  Elias is not. He’ s an emo  who is dramatic and moody. He notices things physically like the hips or the way a girl walks. He’s fighting physical ramifications of his emotions toward Mer.  She notices things like eye color and smells. Elias seems stressed and somewhat lost. Most readers ask if you put your characteristics into your characters and I have to say that I’m a lot like Elias in some ways.

Us: Has Marvel Comics influenced you?

Leigh Ann:  I grew up loving Marvel which is why I don’t like DC. I watched X-men on Saturday mornings. Elia Van Dyne is named after Janet Van Dyne, The Wasp on Avengers. Merrin Grey is named after Jean Grey from X-Men. Every character in ONE/TWO has a Marvel hero name.

Us:  What’s next for you?

Leigh Ann: Solving for Ex comes out in February. It’s a retelling of Jane Austen’s Mansfield Park. I have a story called Chrome put aside that I would love to go back to someday. It’s a retelling of Exodus  with a Sci-Fi twist.

Us: What was your favorite part writing TWO?

Leigh Ann:  Deepening the Mythology. Branching out to the different hubs and letting the reader see there was more. I loved watching Elias grow. In the beginning he was fearful but in the end he was grown up and strong.

Us:  Are you sad that the series is done?

Leigh Ann: I finished this book a while ago and moved on to other projects. But yeah, I guess I am sad. I usually just head to the next project. Once my draft is done and sent to the copy editor, I can’t add anything so it is completely out of my hands.

There was more talking and fun but this is where my notes stop. I also had to eat a doughnut or two. Leigh Ann is a wonderful author and it was great to have her again. I defiantly recommend ONE and TWO. And don’t forget to add Solving for EX to Goodreads.

Two book blurb:

Elias and Merrin’s story continues in TWO, coming October, 2013…

Elias and Merrin are on the run.

After escaping the Biotech Hub, they thought they could breathe easy, or at least a little easier. But when bombs slam into the Social Welfare Hub only hours after their arrival, it becomes clear there’s nowhere to hide – and no end to what Biotech will do to get them back.

Their last chance for safety and answers is the Clandestine Service Hub. CS has intel on the real, broader purpose behind Fisk’s experiments , and the newfound knowledge of the horrors hidden deep within Biotech’s walls sends Merrin back to recover a secret formula that could ruin the Supers’ world forever—and might just save the lives of the Biotech victims spiraling out of control.

Elias’ sisters are counted among the victims of Fisk’s experiments, and if Elias can’t find and help them, their powers will destroy them–sooner rather than later. Returning to the place it all began terrifies him, but with Fisk ready to make an example out of Merrin, and his sisters’ lives –and the lives of all Supers–hanging in the balance, he might not have a choice. If he can’t find the courage to face his worst fears, Elias might lose more than his newfound powers.

He might lose everyone he loves

About the Author

Raised on comic books and classic novels, Leigh Ann developed an early love of science fiction and literature. As an adult, she rediscovered her love for not only reading, but also writing the types of fiction that enchanted her as a teen. Her debut novel, ONE, is about a girl with only half a superpower, the boy who makes her fly, and her struggle to make herself whole.

Leigh Ann, her husband, and four children live in Columbus, Ohio. When she’s not immersed in the world of fiction, you can find her obsessing over the latest superhero movie or using her kids as an excuse to go out for ice cream (again.)
